What is Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx)?
Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) uses a protein produced by the bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. This protein in small quantities is NON-TOXIC for humans. Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) is commonly used as a rejuvenation technique.

What causes my lines?
The continued contraction of specific facial muscles is the main cause of premature aging of the skin and formation of lines.
   - Frown lines
   - Forehead lines
   - Crow's Feet

How does Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) work?
Small quantities of Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) are injected into specific facial muscles causing them to relax. When small doses are injected into the skin it blocks the actions of the nerves that supply the muscle contraction, the main reason of facial lines. The muscles are no longer able to flex thus stopping the formation of lines and the existing ones are much less pronounced because the underlying muscles are totally relaxed. This is a transitory effect which will wear off within a few months.

How is Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) administered?
Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) is administered using very fine sterile disposable syringes.

What happens during a course of treatment with Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx)?
A small amount of Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) is injected into 8 to 15 places about 1 cm apart along the lines. Some patients might experience a very mild discomfort lasting for only a few seconds as each area is treated. Although this treatment is not generally considered to merit the use of a topical local anaesthetic, patients may opt for this if they wish.

How long does the treatment take?
A typical treatment of the whole forehead and crow's feet area takes less than ten minutes.

Are there any risks for my health?
If well administered by a practitioner with medical training, patients experience no side-effects.

How long does the effect last?
You will begin to see noticeable effects within two or three hours. Within two weeks after the initial injection the beneficial effects become really clear. I aim to see all new patients two weeks after injections to ensure that the desired effect has been achieved. The effect lasts for 3 to 6 months depending on the personal reaction to the treatment. If Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) is given regularly, subsequent injection intervals are increased. It is not uncommon to find that after the first year patients may need Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) for maintenance only once every 8-10 months.

Can Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) be used anywhere else?
Wrinkle Relaxation (Botx) is extremely effective in treating local hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating). Treatment of the under arm area will reduce sweating by more than 90% and lasts between 4 to 5 months.

Excessive Sweating Treatment - Hyperhidrosis
Most normal or heavy sweating can be controlled with shop bought antiperspirants or aluminium chloride. When the amount of sweating is excessive and cannot be controlled by these measures it is termed "Hyperhidrosis".

Axillary Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating from the armpits, hands and feet. Sweating is normal in humans, the evaporation of the water from the skin takes the heat away from the body and so sweating is essential for temperature control. Although some people have Hyperhidrosis as a consequence of another illness, in many others it is merely due to overactive sweat glands or over activity of the sympathetic nervous system.

However, excessive sweating from the armpits can be more than just annoying - it can alter the way some people live their lives. People suffering from axillary, feet and hands hyperhidrosis find that they have to be very careful about what clothes they buy or wear and find that they are very self conscious in the social setting, particularly if hot or nervous. At work people suffering from axillary, feet and hands hyperhidrosis are always conscious of what they are wearing, and if they can remove their outer garments - or whether this might reveal embarrassing sweat marks on their clothes. Relief of the condition can lead to vastly improved quality of life.

The treatment is relatively painless and will take about half an hour to forty-five minutes to complete. There are no side, or after affects and normal activities can be resumed immediately. The treatment will last for up to nine months.
